Maine Caring Families

The Maine Caring Families Program (MCF) believes children who show signs of behavioral difficulties resulting from past abuse and neglect, and children with disabilities and/or delays, can live and grow with nurturing families in our communities. MCF provides a statewide system of therapeutic homes where children in the Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) custody may achieve emotional and physical well-being. Community Care provides support and training to MCF Therapeutic Foster Parents in the northern part of the State of Maine. Community Care assigns a support worker to each family, and provides weekly in home support to foster parents to support them as they meet the needs of the child placed in their home.

MCF provides the following services:

  • Weekly face to face contact with foster parents by a consistent support worker
  • Emergency support 24 hours a day
  • Monthly support groups
  • Respite (provided to foster parents by DHHS)
  • Specialized training
  • Pre-service training
  • Service plan development
  • Emergency Planning
